About

As part of his residency to create new work at Locust Projects, Miami-based artist Michael Loveland will create In Process: Civic Sculpture, an installation that incorporates all new functional sculptures situated within a site-specific, immersive environment in our Project Room. The project is informed by his experience in citizen activism, specifically, bringing historic designation to the Palm Grove neighborhood in 2009 creating the largest historic district in Miami-Dade County and working with the community and civic government to return indigenous plants to the neighborhood. The installation will include an immersive mural of Palm Grove's 48 city blocks with depictions of the intended native flora and wall-mounted sculptures. Functional, architecturally-designed objects will facilitate public gatherings for workshops to take place throughout the duration of the exhibition, with a focus on environmentalism and advocacy.
