Figurative painting distorted close to abstration, in the quest for a deeper emotional impact...

About

Michael Lightfoot's new works are about disappearing and appearing, the emotive pictorial possibilities in the space between abstraction and figuration; pushing recognizable images to the edge of being seen as figurative- often to the point of the image being nearly lost to pure abstraction- in an attempt to charge the pictures with specific expressive powers; here is calm, anger, love, lust, in a particular moment, between particular people, yet distorted as only paint can distort forms, in an attempt to heighten the emotional experience that the receptive viewer can have when standing before these paintings.
