A comprehensive introduction to the metal workshop and induction on all metalworking tools required for basic welding and fabrication projects in steel. The course will introduce students to the basics of steel fabrication with an emphasis on MIG welding techniques. Participants will take part in steel stock preparation and welding, alongside an introduction to the fundamentals of welding theory, industry terminology, fabrication best practices, machine calibration and maintenance. The aim is to build an entry level familiarity, confidence, and capability in using a variety of steel sections and the equipment most commonly found in the metal shop of today.
By the end of the course, participants will have made a watertight, five sided vessel in 3mm steel plate. The course will also include a “scrap-heap challenge” style exploration in each individual’s own creative or practical interests.
Maximum 6 participants.
All materials provided.
