Transfer metallic foils onto paper and fabric using a heat press
About
In the workshop I will guide you through the equipment and provide demonstrations in how to heat press onto a mixture of surfaces. You will then begin to draw and design your designs taking inspiration from images and objects provided. Cottons, linens, leather, silk and suede are all great fabrics to metallic foil onto.
Your task is to find interesting clothing and fabric from home, local charity shop or car boot sale. Please bring up to 2 items to transform, such as a shirt, jumper, dress, and scarf or cushion cover. Have a good rummage at home and see what you can find! Before Metallic Printing onto your final pieces you will have the chance to sample onto fabric, just so you get the hang of everything and experiment with all the colours. Beginners welcome and for those who are curious about textiles processes and mark making.
If you have time and the materials to do so, have a go at making your own stencils at home so that you can spend more time metallic foiling your images onto a surface. I recommend you use thin acetate sheets to make the stencils, keep it simple and keep it A3 size and under. Avoid making your stencils from paper.
