Join artist Celia Pym for a special workshop in our gallery, exploring darning, drawing, knitting and needle-work.

About

Mending is a workshop that explores textile repair, how you do it and why you do it. It considers the tenderness and care of mending. The aim of the workshop is to examine your own clothes that have holes and figure how they got the damage and then to work out how you want to repair them.

Led by exhibiting artist Celia Pym, you will practice and learn mending techniques, developing skills in woven and ‘knitted’ darning and patching. Starting with warm-up drawing exercises and a tour of What Do I Need To Do To Make It Ok? It promises to be a rich day with the rare opportunity to work in NCCD’s main gallery during exhibition changeover so we will be able to respond to and enjoy the space.

Please bring along as many damaged garments as you like to discuss and mend any favourite yarns or fabrics. A supply of yarns, tools for repair, and drawing materials will be provided.

No previous darning, drawing, knitting, needle based experience is necessary.

Mending will be led by Celia Pym, exhibiting artist in What Do I Need To Do To Make It Ok? Roof Gallery 18th Mar – 14th May 2017.
