DContemporary is pleased to present Melanie Wright’s solo exhibition, which showcases in part her recent position as Artist in Residence at Newmarket 2018/2019.

About

Melanie is an accomplished and well established contemporary painter of equestrian sporting subjects and landscapes. The wide scope of inspirational subject matter that the Artist Residency at Newmarket has afforded her with the opportunity to quietly observe and sketch at trainers yards, out on the iconic gallops and at the races, has resulted in a fascinating visual insight into a place steeped in racing history.

In this exhibition, Melanie brings together her unique experience of time spent at the very heart of the UK flat racing world. She has employed both her skill as a trained portrait painter and a love of portraying and capturing movement and atmosphere, together with celebrating the visual theatre that racing provides, to create a diverse portfolio of paintings, drawings and sketches, together with paintings inspired by training activities at the British Racing School itself.

Originally from North Yorkshire, with a family background of artists and horse enthusiasts, Melanie trained in portraiture and life painting at Heatherleys School of Fine Art, London. After graduation, she ran a portrait studio in London and since 2008, has been based mainly in Oxfordshire. She is a familiar sight in the Cotswolds, out sketching In the landscape, at polo grounds, racecourses and equestrian events. Her work is exhibited and collected in the UK and overseas and she accepts private painting commissions. This exhibition will also feature a small selection of commissioned work from her equestrian portrait painting portfolio.
