About

David Tregunna, Gallery Director: "Mel Fraser's work I first saw 9 yrs ago at an art fair and always held in my mind. One of her major influences is Epstein, and I'm delighted to now have her work in the gallery. Her calling first awakened age 11 when she saw Rodin's 'Burghers of Calais', Mel Fraser is a contemporary sculptor specialising in stone: creating abstract or figurative pieces. Since I first encountered her work, recognition is growing and it has been shown at art fairs around Europe and New York, at the Chelsea Flower Show and most recently at On Form 16, the UK’s most prestigious sculpture exhibition devoted solely to stone. Her work is held by collectors all over the world and a recent commission saw her work installed in Frank Gehry’s Opus Building in Hong Kong. Pictured, in beautiful and translucent Spanish honey alabaster, is Angel's Wing (XXII), (h69 x w44 x d16 cm), £5,750. I've always liked angels.  Mel Fraser's beautiful and flowing work undulates so sensuously, needs to be viewed from all sides, but the more you look at this piece or touch, the more it really seems like the wing of an angel."
