About
Join us on Friday 28 November for the launch of 'Three Floors Down: In the Studio'. This event is a chance for a first look at the new display and to meet Borough Road Gallery's inaugural Artist in Residence Susan Sluglett, who will be giving a short talk at 7pm. This event is part of South London Art Map's 'Last Fridays'.
For this project, Borough Road Gallery will be divided in two: with one half becoming a studio space, and the other dedicated to a display of works from A David Bomberg Legacy – The Sarah Rose Collection selected by Sluglett and Borough Road Gallery.
Borough Road Gallery is located three floors down from the life drawing studios where David Bomberg taught his legendary art classes in the 1940s and 50s at London South Bank University (then Borough Polytechnic). Bomberg was passionate about the importance of art within society and about supporting artists in their careers. The aim for the residency is to continue Bomberg’s legacy by inspiring new work and supporting the development of an artist and their practice, whilst at the same time offering the opportunity to engage with, understand, and enjoy A David Bomberg Legacy – The Sarah Rose Collection in new, unexpected and creative ways. Sluglett will be based in the Gallery for three months (3 Dec 2014 - 28 Feb 2015), making new work inspired by A David Bomberg Legacy – The Sarah Rose Collection.
