Exhibition
Gendered Materiality by Katherine James
16 Oct 2020 – 02 Nov 2020
Left Bank Leeds
Leeds, United Kingdom
£20
An informal discussion and jewellery-making workshop to accompany Katherine James' first solo exhibition Gendered Materiality, on show at Left Bank from 16 October to 2 November.
The intricate chain mail works in Katherine James' exhibition explore the meanings and associations we make with materials, and the ways these can be applied to create an understanding of gender.
This workshop event includes entry to Katherine's Meet The Artist talk and a round table discussion (from 2pm). You'll hear about the artist's processes and inspirations, and have the opportunity to share your own thoughts about the show. This is an informal and friendly group chat – everybody is welcome to join.
In the workshop (from 4pm), Katherine will supply all the materials you need to create an elegant chain mail bracelet. She'll teach you a basic chain mail technique using stainless steel rings. You'll then be able to adapt the process to make your own unique, ready-to-wear piece.
All materials and equipment are provided.
The exhibition, talks and workshop will all be conducted in line with COVID regulations. Materials and equipment will not be shared and participants from different households will be able to maintain a social distance at all times in our spacious venue.
You can see more of Katherine's work on her website and Instagram.
