Exhibition of four final year students from Chelsea College of Arts

About

This is a unique opportunity to see the last off-site show of four Chelsea College of Arts students in their penultimate year. The artwork is a mixture of themes, yet all students are united about the idea of non-stopping experimentation with contexts and materials. The variety of the artwork will keep all ages entertained. From seeing paintings on the wall to engaging with the installations, no one will remain indifferent!

Artists:

Yunjing Zhu’s explores the process of retraction. Through the experimentation of specular reflection of lights and transparency of the materials she tries to break the ordinary. It is unpredictable installation environment, which extends the limits of observable painting space by using lights as an object to understanding surroundings.

Ka Yuet Lau depicts painted "patches" on canvas for the cracking-offs of buildings and facilities at selected locations. Blurring the division between painting as an art practice and non-art paintings such as maintenance works, this on-going practice attempts to create renegotiations of the context, framing and subject matter of painting. To further incite a discussion of the relationship between painting and reality, art and utilities, she locates the first instance of the work's exhibition to its subject's context in real life, and then show photographic and literature documentation in the gallery space to provide a more inductive representation of the work.

Seoung Hee Lee’s work is about love as emotion. It is represented on Korean traditional paper with mixed materials (oil, oil pastels, ink, watercolours, and acrylic). The main theme is farewell. The stains of ink, some torn papers, and darkness in artworks directly emerged after the agony. This series of artwork include this emotion. The feeling is as the artist is alone in nameless forest. These paintings can represent anyone’s story.

Yovana Tomich’s artwork for this project involves the theme of technology and hand-made artwork. In her paintings the artist recalls the process of printing without using the actual printer. The works become a prototype of 3D-cinema yet having paintings in their traditional sense and qualities.
