Join an expert panel for a lively discussion of how we have represented medicine and science in cartoons over the centuries.
About
Medicine, physicians and scientific discoveries have been depicted in cartoons for hundreds of years. From the ridiculed and the reviled, to political commentary and public education. Join our expert panel for a lively discussion of how we have represented medicine and science in cartoons over the centuries.
The RCP Museum exhibition ‘A taste of one’s own medicine’ explores medical satire in our prints collection. From stereotypes of doctors, depictions of treatments, to political commentary there are many topics explored in these cartoons. Inspired by the exhibition we are opening the discussion to consider how the fields of medicine and science have been shown in the past and how modern cartoonist explore the subject matter today.
The panel
Tim Clayton, bestselling author and award winning historian whose latest book ‘James Gillray: A Revolution in Satire’ is scheduled for publication in November 2022.
Emma Stirling-Middleton, curator of the Cartoon Museum and previous curator of China at the Science Museum.
Daniel Locke, an artist and graphic novelist based in Brighton, UK, he is particularly fascinated by ecology and new developments in medical practise and science.
