Mayfair Art Weekend, the annual celebration of the world’s internationally renowned gallery district, will take place this autumn from Friday 2 – Sunday 4 October 2020.

About

This year Mayfair Art Weekend will launch with the celebrated Gallery HOP! on the opening night when galleries stay open until 8pm. The new and extended programme of events throughout October include the inaugural: Mayfair Sculpture Trail, May Fair Showreel and Mayfair Gallery Publication Award.

The Gallery HOP! will continue to be a highlight, kick-starting the weekend on the evening of Friday 2 October, 5-8pm, with a special late night viewing of all the partner galleries, animating the streets of Mayfair with open access to a wide audience of art devotees, young artists, and collectors.

A new addition to 2020, Mayfair Art Weekend will also be offering a series of self-guided trails through a printed programme and the SMARTIFY app. Live events, ranging from talks, tours, workshops, performances and family friendly activities, will be announced on the Mayfair Art Weekend website on 28 September and will be planned in line with government guidelines.

Hosting exhibitions of internationally recognised artists ranging from modern masters to contemporary art, this year we see the participation of celebrated local and international galleries in Mayfair. For the first time Mayfair Art Weekend will also include an artist studio open house at 48 Brook Street.

Since 2014 independent galleries across Mayfair have united for Mayfair Art Weekend, presenting an unrivalled opportunity for art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in London’s vibrant hub of creativity and craftsmanship, and to engage with the international diverse offering of free exhibitions and events available throughout the area where the worlds of art, fashion and luxury converge.  For six years the event has been held in June, rounding off art for the summer, and we are delighted to present this special October edition to re-engage visitors with art and culture in the autumn.

In October Mayfair Art Weekend in partnership with Art in Mayfair will connect Oxford Street to Piccadilly, and Regent Street to Park Lane with Mayfair galleries placing art on the streets in Mayfair for the Mayfair Sculpture Trail. Visitors will be lead through Burlington Arcade, Cork Street, Bond Street and Grosvenor Square. The trail will take place from 1 - 31 October, coinciding with the opening of the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition.

Visitors will have the chance to see an international selection of artists’ moving image artworks at the screening of the curated May Fair Art Weekend Showreel on Sunday 4 October. Hosted by our partners, The May Fair Hotel, in their world renowned May Fair Theatre, Mayfair Art Weekend has just announced an open call for this new event, with artworks selected to be shown alongside works nominated from galleries across Mayfair.

The inaugural Mayfair Gallery Publication Award emphasises the important contributions made by Mayfair’s galleries to art research and the art world’s book trade. The winning publication, chosen by a panel of judges including journalist Hettie Judah, the RA Magazine’s editor Sam Phillips, and Apollo Magazine’s editor Thomas Marks, will be announced on 31 October.
