AboutRide the wave of possibility, beware the whirlpool of haste. Creative sparks Alix Smith and Beckaotic take you on a journey through an eclectic display of graphic works, painting, collage and silkscreen prints in an exhibition at the dreamspace gallery between 1 June and 12 June 2009.
The exhibition, entititled âMaybe, Maybe Not', forms a tongue-in-cheek confessional by two artists who make sense of the world through humour and play. Beauty meets bolshie in a vibrant show of the bold and the subtle. Believing that nothing is final and that life is a state of flux, both artists thrive on the notion of multiple meaning and engage spectators by openly inviting interpretation and contradiction.
From intricate woven words and delicate illustrations, to large multi-textured canvasses adorned with glass and stone, Smith's work explores media as it does theme; her work reflects an ever changing response to the world around her.
The complimentary work by Beckaotic ranges from the lighthearted and surreal to slightly dark and macabre. This thought provoking body of personal work explores the bittersweet comedy of life and showcases a broad range of styles. Between them, Alix Smith and Beckaotic leave you with the inescapable truth that facts are fickle.
âMaybe Maybe Not' by Alix Smith and Beckaotic, presented by Trifle, will be open to the public between 1 June and 12 June 2009 at the dreamspace gallery, 1-3 Dufferin Street, London, EC1Y 8NA.
