About
Matthieu Pilaud nourishes his sculpture works with an imaginary drawn from the exuberant worlds of technical and technological discoveries of yesterday and today: Leonardo's machines, the bathyscaphe of 20,000 leagues under the sea , the fairgrounds of At the beginning of the 20th century, universal exhibitions, advances in robotics and prostheses, and literary and cinematographic science fiction ... resulted in forms always linked to the metamorphosis of the object.
For the enclosure , the experience of otherness vis-à-vis the outside, the group and the place is decisive.
The building is a Russian doll, a safe place in a safe space, a creative confinement. The series of pieces he proposes attempts to circumscribe these sometimes paradoxical, or at least porous, feelings of these closed spaces. The forms created are manipulable and operate on contrary principles: deployment and withdrawal; restraint and lightness; exclusion and membership; isolation and escape.
