About
Matheus Rocha Pitta seeks to affirm a critical position regarding the mechanisms of exchange that determine social, political and cultural relations by exploiting the existing paradoxes. Not following formal branches of knowledge, the artist creates a territory of dissent itself.
Born in Tiradentes, Brazil, Matheus Rocha Pitta works with photography, sculpture, video and installations. The artist has won the Illy Sustain Art Prize, Madrid (2008), had participated in the 9th Taipei Biennial (2014) and the 29th São Paulo Biennial (2010). His work is part of important public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Castello di Rivoli, Turin, Italy. Recent shows include "Aos Vencedores as Batatas" (Kunsthalle Bethanien, Berlin, Germany, 2017), "Modos de Ver o Brasil" (Museu da Cidade | OCA, São Paulo Brasil), "Alimentário" (Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, 2014), "Collective Fictions" (Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2013), "29º Bienal de São Paulo" (Pavilhão Ciccillo Matarazzo, 2010), among others.
