Material Matter introduces a collaboration of 11 personal projects by the third-year photography students from Edinburgh College of Art. Although conceptually varied, thematically they respond to aspects of an 'elemental investigation'.
Using photography as their medium, they focus largely on aspects of life, and sometimes death, unveiling their visual conception, through such ideas as the suffocation of nature in a concrete jungle, or an inherent presence within the abstract, though ultimately focusing on the underlying, and inescapable existence of these elemental components; Earth Wind Fire Water.
While some are printed digitally others offer a reminder of the traditional beauty of a hand printed photograph, or the novel instance of a polaroid.
