Gather in the caves of the Malt Cross for a series of informal talks around the theme of 'Craft, Industry, and the legacy of the Music Hall' by David John Scarborough (Curator), Dr. Rebekah Wood (Heritage Engagement Officer) and David Severn (Artist).

About

'Mass Production Pt.1' explores the modern and historical of craft and industry.

Arts & Crafts at Malt Cross presents Mass Production Pt.1, the first half of a two-part exhibition examining craft and industry in the Midlands. The two group shows examine the materiality, museology and sociopolitics of craft industries – whilst harking back to the former use of the Malt Cross as a Victorian Music Hall, a leisure site for craft laborers and factory-workers. Works by a selection of UK-based artists explore the rise of the ‘Arts & Crafts’ movement, the fallout brought about by Thatcherism and what it means to be a crafts person in our post-industrial landscape.
