About
'Mass Production Pt.1' explores the modern and historical of craft and industry.
Arts & Crafts at Malt Cross presents Mass Production Pt.1, the first half of a two-part exhibition examining craft and industry in the Midlands. The two group shows examine the materiality, museology and sociopolitics of craft industries – whilst harking back to the former use of the Malt Cross as a Victorian Music Hall, a leisure site for craft laborers and factory-workers. Works by a selection of UK-based artists explore the rise of the ‘Arts & Crafts’ movement, the fallout brought about by Thatcherism and what it means to be a crafts person in our post-industrial landscape.
