About
Martin Seeds presents an exhibition of photographs, as part of East London Photomonth, from his on-going exploration of Ulster County, New York. In the summer of 2012 Seeds was searching for vintage film footage of Northern Ireland when he came across a promotional film for the technology giant IBM. Made in the 70s the films purpose was to persuade young professionals to relocate to an area in up-state New York called Ulster County. Reflecting on notions of home, heritage and the artist’s Ulster Irish identity, Seeds explores this parallel ‘Ulster homeland’ in North America.
Since graduating in 2011, Seeds has been selected for ‘Fresh Face Wild Eyed’ at the Photographers Gallery, London and has exhibited in the UK, Ireland and New York. Recently Seeds was nominated for the Magnum Graduate Photography Award. He spent the summer of 2014 on an artist residency in New York and is currently studying for a post graduate degree at the University of Brighton, where he continues to develop his interest in representations of Irish identity.
