Welsh artist Martin Llewellyn releases an outstanding new collection of sea and landscapes, perfectly complimented by the textural ceramics of Lisa-Marie Tann.

About

Welsh artist Martin Llewellyn is well known for his distinctive style, capturing the country's moody, windswept landscape with his palette-knife paintings.  This latest collection, includes stunning paintings from the Gower peninsula, Pembrokeshire and North Wales.

Martin has enjoyed the freedom of the summer, regularly travelling to Swansea, painting the beautiful sunset at Three Cliffs Bay, catching a Friday evening at Caswell Bay, the beauty of Marloes Sands and the sea swelling at Pwll Deri, Pembrokeshire.  There are also paintings of early evening in Venice and snow-topped mountains in the winter at Cadair Idris.

When Martin paints, he admits that he really doesn't think about anything and gets lost in the moment.  It's all about the painting, the colours, the atmosphere.

He says: "It's been lovely to travel to beautiful places and to capture the wonderful natural beauty of the landscapes of Gower and North Wales in particular.  I tend not to overthink my artwork.  I have enjoyed putting in my earphones and spending hours painting en plein air.  My subject inspiration comes from the landscapes and seascapes that surround me."

There will also be work on show from ceramic artist Lisa-Marie Tann, whose work is also inspired by the beauty of nature.

The Cardiff-based artist, who teaches and works in a variety of community, educational, and health settings, says: "The constant source of inspiration for my artwork is nature, mainly rock and exposed strata layers in the cliffs, eroded beach debris, and generally any interesting textures and colours I encounter whilst walking."

Early on in her artistist career, she explored the use of printed imagery onto the ceramic surface, manipulating the clay prior to firing in order to produce distorted decorative and figurative effects.  Her latest work marks a methodological shift away from the printed surface image.  Instead, she has begun to apply slips and glazes directly to the clay forms, experimenting with colour and texture to produce more abstract designs that nonetheless evoke natural phenomena.
