About

Mark Mulroney’s work stems from a familiar nostalgia for comic books and Saturday morning cartoons. Situated between humor and art, pop culture and silliness, Mulroney’s work is playful, comical and exquisitely crafted.  When writing for Bomb Magazine in 2013, Effie Bowen stated, “Mulroney provides levity in an art universe choking with sober academia. Depending on your mental state at the time, any piece could cause an onslaught of laughter or of tears.  His playful inventiveness acts as a flashback to youthful fantasies fraught with appendageal obsessions and a reveling in cartoon gore and guts… his art conjures memories of a less media driven existence, while providing twisted amusement.”

Born in Dutton, PA, Mark Mulroney received his BFA from San Diego State University and his MFA in Studio Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara.  Currently, Mulroney lives and works in North Haven, CT. Recent exhibitions include Ampersand Gallery, Portland, OR; CG2 Gallery, Nashville, TN; Mixed Greens, Joshua Liner, New York, and Mrs., Maspeth, NY;  Ever Gold [Projects] and Park Life, San Francisco; Left Field, San Luis Obispo, and Slow Culture, Los Angeles, CA.  His work is included in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, as well as The West Family Collection and the The Progressive Collection.

Throughout the week we will feature Mark Mulroney's practice on the gallery’s Instagram, with dedicated stories and posts, highlighting exhibitions and works, both past and present.  For additional information or sales inquires please contact hello@mrsgallery.com.
