About
This summer the Maritime Memories Machine is touring the country, collecting stories of the sea from everyone it meets.
Days in a deckchair or dug in behind a windbreak, sand in sandwiches, pebbles in flip flops. In the storm, in the calm, in the pub, fishermen, sailors, migration journeys, day-trippers. Visit the Maritime Memories Machine to tell us what the sea means to you.
Activities on the tour will be overseen by the Maritime Memory Catchers; they are searching for sea themed memories/stories/moments to help fuel the van. Join in with some sea shanties, create a poem, investigate the handling collection or simply watch events unfold. When it returns to its home at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, its cargo of stories will become part of the new Sea Things gallery, and your memories and stories will become part of a national museum collection.
