rosenfeld porcini is delighted to present Greek painter Marianna Gioka’s inaugural UK solo show Landscape.
About
The gallery will feature Gioka’s most recent paintings and works from earlier periods in her career.
Marianna Gioka’s works have always been distinguished by an extraordinary array of extremely fine mark-making. Initially, her interest in landscape was focused around an architectural structure –an earlier series was inspired by Italo Calvino’s ‘Invisible Cities’. However, her paintings have become progressively freer so that today her marks float in space. In Gioka’s latest canvases, she paints an abstract background, which resembles a sky scene linking it to Constable’s ‘Cloud’ pictures. After this, she begins the lengthy and extensive process of mark-making, where the structure comes very naturally and organically out of the bewildering array of marks.
Marianna Gioka (b. 1980, Greece) attended the Pratt Institute, NYC (2006); the School of Fine Arts, Madrid (2002-2003); and the School of Fine Arts, Athens (2000-2005). The artist currently lives and works in Athens. Gioka had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Greece and has shown at art fairs internationally. Her paintings are regularly acquired for private and public collections: Eurobank; Marfin Bank; Benaki Museum; Vore Museum; National Theatre of Greece; private collections in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, USA, France, Italy and Greece. The artist’s first solo exhibition at rosenfeld porcini is scheduled in October 2015.
