The Portuguese duo Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela adopt an interdisciplinary approach to their art practice, which revolves in particular around cinema and moving images, site-specific installations and a versatile use of drawing, painting, photography and sculpture.

About

„A Trama e o Círculo“, 34 Min.

The film is a collage of visual impressions reflecting everyday empirical knowledge and behaviour, combined with text and sound. Apparently unconnected plot lines coalesce in a play of similarities, movements and edits drawn from watching manual work, natural phenomena and anthropological processes. The visual links between these cultural, religious and ordinary gestures adds a mystical charge, highlighting the significance of profane and archaic actions. The screenplay is written as the film is being shot and unfolds from direct observation; the narrator and protagonist is the hand. The sound was created by Jonathan Saldanha and recorded in the geodesic dome on Teufelsberg in Berlin.
