The interactive catalogue ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD about Maria Vedder video works was recently published by Berlin-based Distanz-Verlag.

Nicola Kuhn and Maria Vedder will present the book in a talk and with a video screening. As a pioneer of video art, Maria Vedder has been researching the moving image and its technologies for many years. In her early, partly performative, video works, the artist created ironically staged situations with which she comments on social conventions surrounding gender issues. In later work groups, Vedder’s interest in seemingly “inconspicuous” motifs, in which the artist discovers narrative potential behind the visible, comes to the fore. In her most recent works, Vedder continues her search for traces by exploration places of political staging. Vedder’s film oeuvre demonstrates how cultural and social phenomena can be transformed into poetic films.

The catalogue ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD is a journey through the history of video art via form, content, and techniques of Vedder’s works.

About the artist:
Maria Vedder has been working with the media of video and photography since the 1970s. Together with Bettina Gruber, she published the “Handbuch der Videopraxis” and the anthology „Kunst und Video“ (both at DuMont Buchverlag Cologne). From 1991 to 2014 she was professor for media art at the Berlin University of the Arts. Her work is represented in numerous collections, including the Museum Ludwig Cologne, the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, the National Museums in Berlin/Kupferstichkabinett, the Tate Gallery Liverpool/England and the ZKM/Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. Some films are included in the canon of video art to safeguard cultural heritage, an initiative project of the Federal Cultural Foundation from 2006, 40yearsvideoart.de - Digital Heritage: Video Art in Germany from 1963 to the present.
