âIn Stillness In Silence' is the latest collection of paintings by Margrit Clegg created between 2007 and 2009.
These heavily impasto, multi layered works on canvas and card can almost be read as a collection of hieroglyphs, yet interestingly they have no intended or obvious message or meaning. Instead they become open to the interpretation of the viewer, a conduit for an intuitive unspoken language.
The creative yearnings of Margrit Clegg are clearly primitivist, embracing an influence of the ancient or exotic for a language of contemporary relevance, one that allows for an inner voice to emerge.
As the frenetic energy of the modern world reaches crescendo, and technological advancemant changes the way that we communicate, the need for stillness and silence, and an alternative meditative communication, arguably becomes a valid contrasting requirement.
This is Margrit Clegg's collective monument to this fundamental human concern.
