About
Mardi Gras Requiem is an online auction of artworks to raise money for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and exhibition of artworks at Project Space Plus.
An online auction of over 70 artworks is currently taking place to raise money for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The artists involved have all generously donated their work for free and all money raised will go to the charity. An exhibition at Project Space Plus Gallery, at the University of Lincoln will be on from 19-28th July, 10-4pm on weekdays, so people can view the works in person, with the final day of bidding of the online auction on 28th July.
Artists include Turner Prize nominee Fiona Banner, Northern Art Prize winners Pavel Büchler and Leo Fitzmaurice, Marmite Painting Prize winner Iain Andrews and Contemporary British Painting Prize winner Cathy Lomax. Other artists include Susan Collis, Phillip Allen, Anthony Frost, Louisa Chambers and Geoff Diego Litherland, as well as the man who inspired the auction, John Bracey.
The auction has been organised by artist and lecturer Andrew Bracey in memory of his father, John Bracey who died last year. The unusual title for the auction, Mardi Gras Requiem, recalls John’s love of trad Jazz and his favourite piece of music, Verdi's Requiem. The mixture of the celebration of Mardi Gras and the act of remembrance in the requiem seemed fitting.
