Creating a Brighton streetscape. A collective project. Come and participate.

About

Lives are made in houses and streets. Places on a map that people are pleased to call their own are also sites of capital investment, property development, gentrification and dispossession. At a moment of collision between local lives and global market forces, in Brighton and elsewhere, artists, researchers, activists and communities around the Phoenix are collaborating to create a collective streetscape.

Maps and Lives is a three-week gallery installation. It opens with a blank map and will accumulate objects, images and words that tell of homes and journeys, histories and connections that will fill floor of the gallery and extend into the surrounding streets. With your help and participation, the gallery will become a site reserved not for only for artworks but occupied as civic or democratic space.
