About

‘Mapping Memory’ is the culmination of a year’s work by postgraduate students on the Transcultural Memory module in the Visual Cultures department at Goldsmiths, University of London. Through both written and creative research, ‘Mapping Memories’ is an online exhibition and public programme diving deeper into the group’s particular interests, spanning themes such as digital modes of memory, intergenerational trauma and collective memories.

Launching online on 18 June 2021, the website will be a hub of works by all students on the module, which is part of the MA Contemporary Art Theory programme. Works will be in a range of media including drawing, sound, photography and poetry, providing internationally-grounded responses to the current state of memory studies, many of which have been exacerbated further by the global pandemic.

A supporting public programme will take place from 21st - 23rd June. The programme will include virtual studio tours with selected artists from Goldsmiths’ MFA Fine Art, and ‘in conversations’ with art and scholarly figures of interest, relating to contemporary memory and diaspora studies.

Participating artists and students are: Miri Ahn, Jingyi Bai, Maria Candanoza, Eunha Chang, Ching-An Chen, Crystal Chia, Alexis Kyung Joo Jang, Anouska Kobus, Maria Markiewicz, Katie Meehan, Anya Mirza, Issey Scott, Abbie Steer, Shi Sun, Ellen Yiwei Wang, Willyi Wang, Ketter Weissman and Yaqi Zhang.

The exhibition and public programme are free and open to all. Please direct any questions to Maria Markiewicz: mmark002@gold.ac.uk.
