This evening Dawn Ades and Ana Varas Ibarra will explore Malevich#s continuing influence today, while reflecting on the monumental art that was to firmly replace the individualism that Soviet avant-garde artists had offered.

During the totalitarian years of Stalin’s rule, what the USSR stifled is often more evident than what it achieved, artistically. This evening Dawn Ades and Ana Varas Ibarra will explore Malevich#s continuing influence today, while reflecting on the monumental art that was to firmly replace the individualism that Soviet avant-garde artists had offered.
Dawn Ades (University of Essex) is a lecturer and curator of numerous exhibitions including ‘Art and Power: Europe under the Dictators 1930 -1945’, ‘ Art from Latin America: the Modern Era 1820-1980 and ‘Dali and Duchamp’, currently on show at the Royal Academy, London. Ana Varras Ibarra is a PhD student from the School of Philosophy and Art History.
