‘Making It' is an award giving recent craft and design graduates the opportunity of support in bridging the gap between education and the market place.

About

It offers successful applicants a two year period of membership to the Suffolk Craft Society. During this period participants will have access to exhibition and gallery selling opportunities, a supportive network of fellow professional designer-makers, the Friends of the Suffolk Craft Society and promotion through the Society's website. Two makers have been selected for the award in 2012. Lin Malyon is a recent graduate in Fashion Textiles from Colchester School of Art and Design. Lin designs and prints beautiful one-off textiles. She specialises in hand printed designs that can be used for both fashion and interiors, inspired by worn, weathered surfaces of wood, stone and metal. Emma Daniels graduated in Surface Design from Norwich University College of the Arts and previously studied at Suffolk College in Ipswich. Using a humble craft knife Emma skilfully hand cuts her designs in a range of materials to create delicate 2D and 3D pieces. She creates one-off handmade cut-outs, themed around life's simple pleasures and as commissions to commemorate life events and anniversaries. Until 7th April 2012, there will be a special display of work by Emma and Lin in the Suffolk Craft Society's permanent exhibition space, Gallery 2 at the Town Hall Galleries in the centre of Ipswich.
