The talk with focus on the power of:
1. Specificity
2. Authenticity
3. Telling your story (and how to do it!)
4. Identifying why you make, and for whom.

The session will also touch on the importance of photography and general presentation skills both in person and online.

Dan Goode is a speaker, curator and mentor and has been the chief talent scout for two online galleries. A session leader for the Crafts Council Hot House programme for a number of years, 2019 year saw him become a mentor for the scheme. Dan has given talks for The Design Trust, Arts Thread, Handmade in Britain, Craft Northern Ireland, Derry Council and Design Factory (amongst many others).

He has been an independent curator for all Handmade in Britain shows since 2016 under 'Curated by Dan Goode', representing 65 of the finest UK makers. Since August 2018 he has been the curator for Canopy Market in King's Cross, adding the new Battersea River Walk Market in the spring of 2019 and Boulevard Market at Islington Square in the summer of 2020.

In addition, Dan has sat on the judging panel for the annual Richard Seager Award since 2019, providing one-to-one mentoring for the successful maker. He has been a craft judge for the Global Design Graduate Show 2020 and 2021. In 2021 he sat on the selection panel for Rising Stars and was one of the expert speakers.

Last, but not least, Dan has his own enterprise, Making Goode, through which he provides one-to-one mentoring and business advice - and above all support - for the entire design and making communities.

The talk is organised by New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, and it is part of our Surrey Artist for the Year project for the Farnham Craft Month. Surrey Artists of the Year is supported by Patricia Baines Trust and organised in partnership with the Surrey Artists Open Studios, The Surrey Life Magazine and the Contemporary Art Fairs.
