Introduced by PIPPA WARRIN, ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND Senior Relationship Manager with responsibility for Higher Education & JAMIE EASTMAN, DIRECTOR OF ARTS, UNIVERSITY OF BATH, the performance will be followed by a panel discussion with the artist alongside ROSE CUPIT, Senior Manager FLAMIN (Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network), and EMILY PETHICK, Director of The Showroom, London, two of the commissioning bodies behind the film featured in the exhibition.
Featuring an opera singer, a magic box and text read by the artist, the performance Magician’s Boxattempts to locate a sense of live-ness in the symbolic and surreal – questioning what’s real, and acknowledging the fragility of such realms. A magic box, created especially for the performance will join the exhibition following.
Referencing the artist’s ongoing enquiry into magic and body of work to date the performance is followed by a late night showing of the ambitious feature film Only a Free Individual Can Create a Free Society – screened at 8.30pm.
