A selection of textile, embroidery and mixed media work based on and inspired by the characters and plays of Shakespeare.
About
This summer Florence Arts Centre are hosting the latest exhibition from Cumbrian-based co-operative Trident Textiles, part of the national commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare.
Magic in the Web: A celebration of the works of Shakespeare gathers together a collection of work inspired by the Bard’s words and imagination. Working with mixed media, incorporating hand and machine embroidery, silk, wool, print and batik the exhibition includes textile artworks, sculpture and practical pieces eg. bags, scarves and jewellery. Using a rich tradition of textile work, with centuries-old materials married to contemporary techniques, the work both celebrates the past and informs the future, offering a universal and accessible display of art, much like the continuous reinvention of Shakespeare’s own works.
