Mafalda and Eternauta Save the World. The Critical Art of Argentinian Comics Immigration, art and politics heavily contribute to the “DNA” of these Argentinian comic-strip artists

About

One of them is an Argentinian of German descent; another was born in Paraguay; a third is Italian; a fourth is Uruguayan with Italian roots. The next is a son of Andalusia and the last artist has roots in Lebanon and Málaga. We refer to the writer Héctor Germán Oesterheld, the draftsman Francisco Solano López, as well as Hugo Pratt, Alberto Breccia, Quino and Miguel Rep. They are masters of an art form that has influenced entire generations with humour, sharp criticism and visionary imagination. After the golden decades of the 1940s to the 1960s, comics maintained a stance of resistance against the dictatorship in the 1970s; since then they can no longer be separated from social criticism in Argentina.
The Akademie der Künste presents a unique, creative and politically reflective development in the art of Argentina with an installation on the façade of its building on Pariser Platz, a magazine and an Academy discussion (in German and Spanish with simultaneous translation) to accompany the opening.
In collaboration with the Embassy of the Argentine Republic.
