#MadeAtChelsea is a collaboration between Heather Gentleman, Efthymios Kakouris, Stella Kapezanou and Jo Stanford, along with two visiting artists: Jheni Arboine and Lana Locke.
About
The exhibition takes place on the university campus linking these multicultural artists together. Taking London as a point of reference and inspiration, the show represents a microcosm of our globalized world. What is distinctive about this particular show lays in the fact that each artist brings their native background, creating exciting pieces that both reflect their home and culture.
The theme that ties these works together is the exploration of the Everyday. A metaphor of the artist’s acute awareness of their surroundings that have changed from their home to the university premises. Resulting in the creation of philosophical explorations of their artistic practice and the society that surrounds them. These become the counterparts of the exhibition creating an explosive celebration of their everyday life and their interconnected relationships.
The show offers an insight of the works that they produced at their time in Chelsea, where they were asked to move away from their comfort zone. A challenge that has proven to be successful, in that the artists’ have offered us a new way of rethinking the Everyday.
By exhibiting the works of the visiting artists the show is enriched with their original take on urban environment. The gallery space is filled by one painting from each artist, alongside with one sculptural and installation piece.
