City and Guilds of London Art School announces its 2017 MA show, featuring work by graduating students, fellows and artists in residence. The work exhibited represents a diversity of disciplines including painting, video, photography, sculpture, printmaking and installation. Rich, gestural paintings, with references to the Rococo are juxtaposed with paintings-as-object, taking inspiration from Minimalism. Intimate and
embracive studies of the domestic quiet will capture the viewer, before drawing them into an imaginary wilderness of natural splendor. Immersive environments have been created through the assemblage of objects and images from personal archives, evoking dreamlike memories and revealing autobiographical narratives. The viewer may encounter and explore the rhythmic experience of the urban environment through ambitious installations. Celebrating a dedication to research and enquiry, the work embodies an engagement with the conventions of art history and a re-evaluation of what contemporary art may be today. Visitors to the MA Fine Art Show will have the opportunity to experience works of exceptional quality within the atmospheric exhibiting environment of traditional Victorian studios and Georgian buildings, which are now linked with a new contemporary foyer designed by Alan Higgs Architects. The ambitious work produced by this year’s students continues to position City and Guilds of London Art School’s MA graduate show as a highlight of London’s postgraduate fine art scene.
