About

The worlds collide in the work of Léo Dorfner; we see beautiful arts, mythology and popular culture combined to create a cacophony of cultures. Dorfner, a native Parisian, trained at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris and has shown his work in France, Germany and South Korea.
Dorfner's works act as a crystallization of the present. We live in a society that balances between the fine line of progress and tradition; Dorfner's works bring together the past and the present in a moody and often humorous way (it's hard not to find a Mickey Mouse tattoo on Andromache's cheek fun). There is a silent rebellion in his works that manifests as an obvious product of time; the idea that Dorfner chooses to corrupt established forms through graffiti and the manipulation of photographs, is impossible to separate from the images created by Instagram's generation. With the appearance of social networks (and a consequent deterioration of the period of concentration) the satire has been transformed from the written form to the images; a meme is so important today, like Borowitz's review when he criticizes current events. Dorfner's art focuses on the spectrum of social satire, passing through opposite poles with each new work.
His creative process also lends itself to being considered completely modern. When you ask the artist for his source of inspiration, Dorfner responds: "It depends on the moment, for example, I always carry a camera and when I see something interesting, I capture it. Sometimes I use the photo as a photo, sometimes I incorporate it in the pictures. I also spend a lot of time looking for photos on the Internet, which fuels my creation process and is a part of my paintings, which are made of different layers, different types of images, found on the Internet or that I have photographed myself, realistic or not, a logo or just text.
