Artizan Gallery welcomes artist Jo Salmon to the gallery for a two week solo exhibition.

About

Jo was born and spent her formative years in Padstow, Cornwall and there is a clear influence from the Cornish art movements visible in her work. These allusions have subsequently been added to by years of living and working in the far east where she also studied at ‘la Salle college of Arts’ in Singapore. Now settled in Devon, a life underscored by explosions of colour is laid bare in Jo’s art, surrounded by landscapes which in her words offer “extraordinary breadth” and are “unbeatable”.

With a background in design and taking inspiration from the likes of Patrick Heron, Winifred Nicholson and William Morris, her still life and landscapes are audacious and luminescent, a vibrant celebration of the natural world and working landscapes that surround her current mid-Devon home. Always working immediately with her subject matter, Jo works in the chosen landscape, though this immediacy is not always easily appreciable in the final outcome, before making refinements in her home studio.

In her exhibition with Artizan Gallery, “Luminescent Nature”, Jo considers the unique impact of personal perspective. “We all perceive what is around us differently. Those streaks of light and colour which can enter into our vision is what creates our personal reflection.”
