Artists are skilled at enabling us to see the world differently. Now using the latest technology, they invite us to interact and immerse ourselves in their inventive creations. The Lumen Prize and Contains Art will present some of the best digital art being created today.

About

Lumen is proud to present the exhibition 'Adventures in Digital Art', using Contains Art’s unique gallery space fashioned out of a shipping container. We will present a cutting-edge VR work, ‘Hyperplanes of Simultaneity’, winner of the Lumen Gold Prize 2016, as well as two other engaging, interactive works from Lumen Prize finalists.

Artists to be shown in this exhibition:

Rhythm
by Biwei Niu (USA)
2017 Lumen finalist

Rhythm is a haptic interactive installation about the Chinese philosophical principle, Qi. Generative, abstract and organic graphics are projected onto a large vertical frame covered with white spandex fabric. The panel’s imagery is affected by touch, so when people move their hands across the surface they can make waves, or push the imagery around.

MOC
by Lab 212 (FR)
2015 Lumen finalist

Moc explores the relationship between sound and image through simple interactions. An imaginary landscape passes before the viewer. Whistling into a microphone, a tree grows: its shape will evolve in real time based on the sound produced.

Hyperplanes of Simultaneity
by Fabio Giampietro & Alessio de Vecchi (IT)
2016 Lumen Prize Gold Winner

In Fabio Giampietro’s work the barriers of art come tumbling down and a relation of continuity and simultaneity between the three spatial dimensions and time becomes tangible, though still imponderable, in the viewer’s eyes. His work melts the tradition of painting to the most innovative technologies conjugating the planes of space and time.
