A talk from Dr Lucy Coleman Talbot on the history of the Crossbones Graveyard, a sacred site of sex worker heritage

About

The Museum of Sex Objects is delighted to present a talk from Dr Lucy Coleman Talbot exploring the history of sex workers at the Crossbones Graveyard in Southwark. This is one of a series of talks exploring sexual cultures programmed by The Museum of Sex Objects to coincide with their month-long exhibition at The Horse Hospital this September.

From its mythic origins as a Single Women's Churchyard to John Constable's encounter with the spirit of The Goose (a medieval sex worker who 'visited' John in the 1990s), the Crossbones Graveyard has become a sacred site of sex worker heritage and an important place for their memory, ritual, performance, and activism.

Dr Lucy Coleman Talbot is an authority on the Crossbones Graveyard. She has been volunteering at and advocating for the burial ground since 2016.
