From October 17-21, twenty-four participating galleries, all within walking distance of each other, are inviting visitors to familiarize themselves with the neighborhood, the galleries, and their artists to celebrate the inaugural Lower East Side Art Week.
About
LES Art Week was conceived by Lesley Heller of Lesley Heller Gallery and Bart Keijsers Koning of LMAK Gallery as a way of emphasizing both brick and mortar galleries and the vibrant neighborhoods in which they are located. To set this week apart from the galleries’ regular programming, each was asked to present an exhibition with a specific theme in mind. For 2018, all participating galleries will be exhibiting work by female artists, both established and emerging.
The dedicated week aims to emphasize the unique richness of the Lower East Side’s art scene, as both a neighborhood of fine art and non-conformism. By asking each gallery to present within the same parameters, LES Art Week
highlights the diversity of artistic vision each gallery represents.
L.E.S Art Week has partnered with the game changing audio-guide developers, The Two Percent to offer an hour-long tour of participating galleries and their shows. This app will be available for purchase ($15) at LESartweek.com and MP3 players available at Lesley Heller Gallery. This experience is ONLY valid during Art Week and the immersive audio tour covers 7 select galleries, featuring interview clips from each gallery director.
A bonus track will feature a rare architecture tour of the 3-story Perrotin Gallery, lead by the voice of the architect!
