Love – often sung about and even more often described, supposedly self-explanatory and usually closely linked to an idea of a romantic couple relationship.
About
But in times of political, economic and social crises, it is more important than ever to give the term new meaning. With the festival “Love is a Verb” we want to think about loving in a transparent way, not in the statics of a noun, but in the dynamics of action. Because there is political power in loving as an act. The ten days of the festival revolve around the question of how we want to live with one another and relate to one another. What contradictions do you have to endure in order to grow beyond pre-structured love constructs? How can we trace the mothers, grandmothers, and generation of women whose lifelong work has been rendered invisible? And what if loving described a general benevolence towards other people, living beings, the planet and yourself, as well as the ability and willingness to grow together with them?
In addition to the artistic stage productions in HAU2 and HAU3 and digital projects on HAU4, the “Vessel of Love” – a specially designed space with works by Sophie Utikal and a spatial concept by Diane Esnault and Shaly López – is the heart of the festival. In various formats such as concerts, performances, lectures and conversations, diverse ideas about transformative relationships are shared, discussed, imagined and celebrated.
