About

The writer and ethnologist Hubert Fichte (1935–1986) is considered a poetic and documentarian realist precursor for new disciplines in Germany such as Queer Studies and Postcolonial Studies: In his writings, economic criticism, (homo-) sexuality and self-reflection become methodical tools. Exhibitions and translations of his novels into the languages of the places that Hubert Fichte traveled with his life companion Leonore Mau have stimulated reception of his work there for the first time.

In fall 2019 in Berlin at HKW the exhibition Love and Ethnology – the Colonial Dialectic of Sensitivity (after Hubert Fichte) will conclude the project. With works by Nadja Abt, Kader Attia, Letícia Barreto, Michael Buthe, Coletivo Bonobando, Papisto Boy, Nathalie David, Claudia Del Fierro, Alair Gomes, Renée Green, Philipp Gufler, Cristóbal Lehyt, Leonore Mau, Tiona Nekkia McClodden, Mario Navarro, Richard Oelze, Lil Picard, André Pierre, Lili Reynaud Dewar and many more

In 2017, the cooperation project with the Goethe-Institut started out with the exhibitions in Lisbon, Salvador de Bahia and Rio de Janeiro. In 2018, there were exhibitions in Santiago de Chile, Dakar and New York.
