Looking At: Abstraction with Stephen Snoddy

When Stephen Snoddy was invited to select a display from the collection, he proposed that he select 10 abstract paintings and paint his own response to each to create a ‘couplet’. He uses elements from the chosen works to construct his own paintings.

Snoddy wishes the audience to view the works together by ‘Looking At’ the pieces, comparing the structure, colour and form. The paintings (‘The Southampton Suite’) are deliberately made the same size as the originals and all are unframed so that the focus can be on the work alone.
