‘This is London calling ..and endlessly.. recalling:
Richard Walker shows his paintings and prints of the capital, having studied, worked and exhibited here since the 70s.
Not so much images of a static location but more a living organism filled with ideas, experiences and memories.
About
The earliest piece from 1975 is a montage of buildings on the Albert Embankment imagined as a washing line, referencing artists like Claes Oldenberg or Christo . This playful spirit has continued over the decades but also took on a darker tone with a personal response to the 7/7 bombings of 2005.
Recently Richard has been drawn to the neglected Brutalist architecture that is under threat of demolition and as with other subjects he continues to refer to his original ‘punk aesthetic’ using colour, texture and form to bold and dynamic effect.’
