Alexander McQueen’s exhibition in 2011 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York caused the longest queues in Met history and thanks to the V&A the iconic work of McQueen can be viewed in London until 2nd August, 2015.
About
In this talk, Fashion Historian, Amber Jane Butchart, will explore the enduring fascination with McQueen’s work; in a month where the Tate is also showing an exhibition about his legendary final fashion show (exhibition ends 16th May).
Another question of legacy (and scandal) concerns John Singer Sargent’s work. Lecturer, Dr Richard Stemp will explore the work of this American artist, like McQueen, known for his obsession with beauty and image and considered the leading portrait painter of his generation.
Madame X was seen to be as scandalous in its day as the work of YBA sensation Sarah Lucas. Dr Richard Stemp examines Lucas’ provocative body of work and tells us why she has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the imminent Venice Biennale, following in the footsteps of Anish Kapoor, Jeremy Deller and Steve McQueen.
London Art Studies specialises in entertaining, informative classes in the fine and decorative arts. Perfect for those short on time, this lecture is designed to appeal to both curious beginners and more knowledgeable art-lovers, coffee and light refreshments are provided.
