This virtual gallery is an online exhibition that captures the creative responses of 18 international artists to lockdown through participation in a geographically distant but collective residency.
About
In late March 2020, as the seriousness of the global COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, artists around the world found themselves adapting to new spaces, new routines, and sometimes restricted or alternative materials, as well as the emotional and financial stresses faced by most of society. UK-based Finnish artist Meri Lahti proposed bringing artists together from March to June through a geographically distant residency, providing a loose structure for artists to reflect on their experiences of lockdown through their individual practices.
This exhibition showcases the creative responses of 18 international artists to lockdown, through poignant artworks that include painting, drawing, graphic design, photography, embroidery, animation, visual poetry and video.
