Basilios Papaioannou has a deep interest in found and recycled objects, especially real estate signs. Many are used once then discarded and end up in land fill.
Location, Location, Location, is a response on how the real estate market in Australia has dominated our scenery, culture and psyche. There is a belief that owning a home, the 'Australian Dream', is an expression of security and success which was enjoyed by many but rising house prices is making it more difficult.
The pieces represent aerial views of Sydney's urban landscape. They embody suburban sub divisions, road intersections, built forms, infrastructure and unsustainable development.
Some contain scars, holes, scratches and graffiti, that are purposely left to show the history of the material, coinciding with the history and how we use our cities today.
