Sala La Marina, in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de València is pleased to announce “Lo Eché Al Fuego Y Ha Salido Este Becerro”, the first solo exhibition by Aitor Gonzalez (Valencia 1994).
In this new project, Aitor begins with everyday objects in order to explore the formal and conceptual possibilities of the triviality of the everyday. Aitor attempts to emancipate these objects from their existence as commodities through its transformation and resignification in the context of the exhibiting space. He is exploring ways to separate these objects from their preset life as commodities by presenting the viewer with new meanings and ways to interpret them. The exhibition space functions in these works by allowing the objects to be deconstructed and stripped of their function. In one hand it is an intellectual exercise for the viewer yet on the other the artist is exploring the condition of himself as a cultural producer.
The internal space that comes between the non-functionality of the objects and the lack of allusion to traditional sculpture is not an impasse, but a free space where the artist can propose new perspectives and get closer to the “real” nature of the object.
