Liz Larner’s wall-based ceramic forms initially appear like paintings, but on closer inspection resemble ancient tablets or sculptural specimens of the mineral world.

About

Fired and coated with pigment and resin, the clay pieces have fissures, cracks, and bends that seem to compress geological history, recalling the very forms and occurrences found in stones and minerals. The titles of the works—inflexion, caesura, subduction, mantle, passage, and calefaction—allude to Larner’s interest in chance and the fragmentation of both the body and the earth.

AAM exhibitions are made possible by the Marx Exhibition Fund. General exhibition support is provided by the Toby Devan Lewis Visiting Artist Fund.

Liz Larner’s exhibition is supported by Gabriela and Ramiro Garza and Susan and Larry Marx, and funded in part by the AAM National Council. Additional support is provided by Eleanore and Domenico De Sole.
